A taste of the Northumbria Community is coming to two churches in Wakefield this May.
The two day event will start fittingly in the small chapel to the two Northumbrian saints, St Aidan and St Oswald found in Trinity Church, Ossett on Friday 4 May when writer and dancer, Andy Raine, reads his latest collection of poems - a cycle of 31 poems designed to take the listener on a journey into the Places of the House that John Built starting in Nazareth and crossing the desert to the Celtic.
Andy, known also for his teaching on motivational gifts, will be accompanied by his singer/songwriter wife, Anna Raine. He will run a dance workshop in Trinity Ossett on Saturday 5 May for all ages – and experience – which starts with drink and chat at 9.30am, and will continue until 12.30pm.
All Saints Church, Normanton will be the venue for Anna Raine in Concert on Saturday 5 May from 7.30pm.
Described as a pure and inspirational vocalist, Anna, will bring her unique blend of northern song, folk music and Celtic spirituality to her set, which will feature music from both her new CD, and her album Ancient Paths, which captures the rhythm of the tides and the Daily Office of the Celtic Daily Prayer.
Vicar of Trinity Ossett, the Revd Clive Hicks, said: “ It is a great opportunity for us here in Wakefield to welcome these two remarkable artists. They bring so much spirituality and love to their work – grounded as they are in the Northumbria Community – and we are delighted to be hosting them.
The vicar of All Saints, Normanton, the Revd Alan Murray added: “We have both benefited from their ideas and influences over many years.”
