Abbie conquers Cathedral tower challenge for good causes

Fearless curate Abbie Palmer has raised nearly £1,700 from her abseiling exploits at Ripon Cathedral and the money is still coming in.

Revd Abbie, with the back-up support of Bishop Helen-Ann' Hartley's teddy bear, was one of some 100 people who lowered themselves down the cathedrals south west tower to raise cash for good causes.

Abbie, currently a curate at St Michael and All Angels, Beckwithshaw, was sponsored in aid of its nave altar appeal and has so far had £1,200 in donations.

She also raised £485 for Ripon Cathedral's development fund and gift aid is still to be added to both tallies.

"It was a fantastic experience - and of course I had Bishop Helen-Ann's teddy bear Tedwina to keep me company!

"The cameraderie on the day was really lovely and everyone enjoyed such fabulous views from the top.

"It was all very professionally organised and so it was just a case of coming down step, by step," Revd Abbie said.
