Last week several members of the diocese joined 10,000 others in Westminster to meet with MPs to express their concern for action on climate justice.
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer (pictured centre), says, "At one of the incredible ecumenical services we were able to worship, be inspired by the scriptural imperative to seek justice and hear from and pray for some of our global brothers and sisters whose lives are being serverly impacted now.
"We saw groups of constituents gathered round their MP chatting in Westminster Park and others had tea on the Houses of Parliament terrace with their MP .
"It was inspiring to be with so many who care for the future of God’s earth and his people who depend on it."
The event was organised by the Climate Coalition as part of the “For the Love Of” campaign, to lobby our new MP’s about climate justice issues as they start this parliament and ahead of the international climate change talks in Paris in December.
What can I do locally?
On Saturday 4 July there's day of climate action planning at the Leeds Diocese office - for churches in Leeds to join together ecumencially to take action on climate justice. Details here.
Count down to Paris talks
Watch out for our 10 week countdown (in September) to the Paris talks. The programme includes Riding Lights Theatre Production, "Baked Alaska" (in Rounday, Harrogate, Ossett and Ripon Cathedral), a flash mob, a candle-lit vigil and a day of prayer and fasting for the climate.
