The refreshments, sponsored by the new  Aldi store in the city, were enjoyed by concert goers at a  spectacular festive Carol Concert which took place at Ripon Cathedral last weekend.

The  evening of traditional carols and seasonal music was performed by Ripon Cathedral Choir, directed by Andrew Bryden, and assisted by Tim Harper and Tom Coxhead with live music from Cathedral Brass, and pupils from Ripon Grammar School directed by Edward Seymour .

Special guest author, Gervase Phinn, entertained the audience with stories of his experiences as a school’s inspector for North Yorkshire. There was a special visit by Santa who gave out gifts to the children in the audience.

During the interval to the large audience enjoyed the mulled wine and mince pies from the new  Aldi store in Ripon .

Proceeds of nearly £7,000 from the concert will go towards Ripon Cathedral Music Trust, which aims to secure  the Music at Ripon Cathedral including making sure there is always a Choir singing within the Cathedral.

The Cathedral Choir has produced CD recordings, broadcasts, concerts and tours which are a major part of the Choir’s schedule, as well as singing six services each week and at the great festivals of Christmas and Easter.
