The Archbishop of York has awarded 210 students from Abbey Grange CE Academy their KS4 Young Leaders Award.
On this senior leadership course, the students put key life and leadership skills into practice in order to make a difference in their school and local community.
Dr John Sentamu said: “I’m delighted to award these students who have worked very hard on their Young Leaders Award at Key Stage 4. I’m really pleased that they have come to discover that true leadership begins through serving others. Congratulations Abbey Grange Academy – and keep up the good work”.
Over the past two years the students have studied modules in: Creative thinking, Teamwork, Communications, Conflict Resolution and Public Speaking. They developed a campaign focused on World Food Day, leafleting shoppers in the city-centre of Leeds, they produced cakes for local care homes and they developed materials to support the Year 7 students’ transition into secondary school.
Young Leaders Award Student, Iyanu said: “This is a very enjoyable course because you can work hard and somebody else also gets a lot out of it”.
Kiesha added: “The course challenges us to ensure our leadership skills are working for the benefit of others.”
