Huddersfield Parish Church has just announced its line up for this year’s annual Lent talks.
The talks – held every Wednesday lunchtime through Lent – will this year feature, artist Ashley Jackson, comedian, Andy Kind and canon theologian and Emeritus Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Sheffield, the Revd Professor Loveday Alexander.
The curate, the Revd Simon Crook said: We are very excited to announce this year's speakers at the Annual Lent Talks, at Huddersfield Parish Church.
“This is the first year that we have not had a bishop, but, instead we have a comedian, a professor, and Ashley Jackson, the renowned local artist; all of our 2018 speakers are provoking and engaging, we are really looking forward to what they have to say.
"During these talks we always want to engage church and community, and we welcome all people into our church for some stirring talks and lively discussion," he added.
The talks are held every Wednesday through Lent at 11 am in the town centre church and are followed by a question and answer time.
Comedian Andy Kind opens the series on Wednesday 21 February with his lecture: Hidden in Plain Sight: 5 reasons the World already knows Jesus.
He is followed by Fiona Venner, Chief Executive of Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service with: The place of love in Mental Health.
On Wed 7 March, the Revd Gemma Sampson will ask: When you said “set the captives free” You didn’t mean me, did you? She will also preach in church at the end of the session at 12.30pm
And the Revd Professor Loveday Alexander’s topic is Sacrifice and Salvation on Wed 14 March and this year well known Yorkshire artist, Ashley Jackson, pictured left, courtesy of the Huddersfield Examiner, will close the series with Painting in the Great Cathedral of the Open Air.
