‘And the winners are..' Photo competition results announced

WinnersThe three winners and three runners-up of the Diocesan Photo competition have been announced and congratulated by Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, at the official opening Winnerceremony of Church House in Leeds city-centre this week. Each received a large glass mounted version of their photograph and each winning entry has gone on display at the new diocesan headquarters.

There were three categories ‘Confident Christians’, ‘Beauty in our Buildings’ and ‘Why I love my school’ (the competition for children and young people).

The  winning pictures and three runners-up pictures are now on display in the reception area of the new diocesan office. Other entries are also on show in a mosaic of pictures on the ground floor at Church House.

Pictured on this page are (from top left anticlockwise) ‘People Working Together’ by Elliot O’Connor (aged 10), Hawksworth CE Primary School (Runner-up, Why I Love my School category) and  ‘Three Friends’ by Layla Silburn (aged 10), Kirkburton CE First School (Winner, Why I Love my School category)

(Left) ‘Confirmation’ by John Hart (Winner, Confident Christians category) with the prize collected by his brother, Revd Robert Hart of Hensworth. Robert said, "I’m was really pleased indeed that a photo of our Christian life here in Hemsworth would be on the wall in the Diocesan Office, now and in the years to come.  John’s photos reveal an exceptional talent and I’m delighted he allows us to use them to help others catch a glimpse of our parish life together."

(Bottom left) ‘Holy Trinity, Meanwood’ by John Kane (Runner-up, Confident Christians category) John has built up a library of worship pictures at Meanwood with more online at https://holytrinitymeanwood.org.uk/?

Runner Up(Bottom right) ‘St Helen’s, Sandal in the Snow’ by Revd Rupert Martin (Runner-up, Beauty in our Buildings category) - Robert  used flash to capture the snowflakes as they fell creating an atmospheric winter picture.

(Top right) ‘Wakefield Cathedral’ by Tim Brown (Winner, Beauty in our Buildings category). Tim takes many pictures but particularly liked the 'inside outside' quality of this picture of the glass doors of Wakefield Cathedral reflecting the city shops and pedestrians outside framed by the pillars and lights of the cathedral interior.
