ANGELS FILLED HALIFAX CHURCH LAST WEEKEND
The congregation at Holy Trinity and St Jude’s in Halifax filled their church with angels last weekend to welcome in the upcoming festive season.
In the first event of its kind at Holy Trinity and St Jude’s, parishioners let the church borrow any angels they had at home which were joined by hand-made angels from those who attend the church’s young family service, the Junior Church, Brownies, Rainbows and Guides and the local C of E Primary Academy.
Lesley Lord, involved in organising the Angel Festival, says, “The Angel Festival at Holy Trinity and St Jude’s went very well, but the appalling weather kept some people away on the Saturday.
“In the end there were over 600 angels in all shapes and sizes!” - three times the amount expected!
ANGELS FILL HALIFAX CHURCH THIS CHRISTMAS
The congregation at Holy Trinity and St Jude’s in Halifax will fill their church with over 200 angels this weekend to welcome in the upcoming festive season.
In the first event of its kind at Holy Trinity and St Jude’s, parishioners will let the church borrow any angels they have at home, and these will join the hand-made angels from those who attend the church’s young family service, from the Junior Church, Brownies, Rainbows and Guides and the local C of E Primary Academy.
Lesley Lord, involved in organising the Angel Festival, says, “The people who come will find the church full of angels of all shapes and sizes, on the window sills, around the pillars and strung between the pillars.
“There will also be appropriate verses where angels are involved and lots of tinsel and glitter.
“As visitors sit down for coffee or tea and a mince pie they will look at the overall display and we hope that they will reflect on the real Christmas Season.”
The Revd Dr Richard Frith, Vicar of Holy Trinity and St Jude’s Church, says, “Angels play such a big part in the Christmas story, and especially in telling people the good news of what God is doing - telling it to Mary, to Joseph, to the shepherds.
“We really hope that our Angel Festival will give people the chance to stop and reflect on the good news at the heart of Christmas.”
The Angel Festival was the idea of Margaret Seed, Holy Trinity and St Jude’s Director of Music, who thought of filling the church with angels and inviting the congregation to come and see the spectacle.
The Angel Festival marks a new chapter in the church’s festive events which, in the past, have ranged from a Christmas Tree Festival to a Christmas Crib Festival.
Holy Trinity and St Jude’s Church will be open for people to see the Angel Festival between 10am and 4pm on Saturday the 5th December and between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday the 6th December.
Entry to the Festival is free, but there will be an opportunity to make a donation to the Church at the event.
