The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu will be one of the guest speakers at ‘Believe in Shipley’ , a ten day Christian festival taking place in the town from September 25th until October 2nd.
Dr Sentamu will be speaking at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire at an open meeting on Monday 26th September at 7pm . Among others speaking will be local resident, the Bishop of Bradford, Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth who is hosting a curry evening the local Aagrah restaurant as part of the festival.
Churches and congregations across Shipley have come together to organise the ‘Believe in Shipley’ Festival with a mixture of joint celebrations and individual church events. Shipley Christians Together said, “we want to invite everyone in the community to see for themselves and explore some joyful, creative and diverse ways in which Christian faith is expressed and celebrated here.”
Looking ahead to the Festival, Bishop Toby Howarth said, “I am very much looking forward to the Believe in Shipley mission festival. I’ll be engaging with people here in Shipley where I live at different events, and in particular on the Thursday evening at our local Aagrah restaurant where I will be chatting with fellow curry lovers.”
He added that he was looking forward to welcoming the Archbishop of York to Shipley. “One of the highlights of the festival will be the evening with Archbishop Sentamu on Monday 26th September at 7pm at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire. The Archbishop has an infectious faith, and I’m hoping to bring some friends along to hear him.”
The Archbishop of York said, “I am delighted to be taking part in the Believe in Shipley mission. To be able to share with others about the most amazing treasure, the good news of God’s transforming love and power, is both a privilege and a joy. I want to encourage all to come along and hear for themselves of God’s love and plan for them.”
