URGENT wall repairs have begun at St Mary's Church, Thornton in Craven, thanks to a Tesco’s grant of £8,000 from its Bags of Help campaign.
The cash help came from a 5p levy on the supermarket’s plastic bags and came at just the right time said church warden Judith Hall:
"Church officials were delighted when in Spring this year our application for funding was accepted by the Tesco's Bags of Help scheme.
“The churchyard walls have been in need of repair and the beautiful autumn weather has been ideal for our wallers Nigel Atkinson and James Pickering, pictured enjoying refreshments provided by our bell ringers group on a bright sunny Monday morning recently”.
