A BIRTHDAY BOOK for the Queen will be opened in Wakefield Cathedral on April 21, her 90th birthday, for the people of Wakefield and the Five Towns to write their own birthday wishes and prayers.
The Mayor of Wakefield, Coun June Cliffe MBE and the Dean of Wakefield, the Very Revd Jonathan Greener will be the first to write their greetings in the birthday book and raise a toast to her Majesty.
And the book will be kept open until after official birthday on Saturday June 11th before being sent to the Palace and a copy retained at the West Yorkshire Archives for future generations.
The Dean, Jonathan, said: “Her Majesty the Queen is such a vital part of all our lives. The whole country is rejoicing in her 90th birthday and I know will want to wish her many happy returns.
“We wanted to offer the people of Wakefield and beyond the opportunity to send prayers and greetings by opening this birthday book in the Cathedral from April 21 until her official birthday weekend after June 11.”
In Morley, St Andrews and St Paul's have ordered the baptism, confirmation and wedding registers from the past 90 years from the local archive office and will open them up to the public in time for the Queen's birthday and are planning a series of events to engage with the community leading up to a big celebration service on the Sunday of her official Birthday weekend in June at St Paul's followed by a barbecue.
