The Bishop of Huddersfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs has said that the Government needs to get over the idea that faith is part of the problem when it comes to issues of immigration and integration.
Bishop Jonathan has added his voice in response to the publication earlier this week of the interim report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration which argues that too little attention has been paid to the integration of immigrants so that people are living parallel lives in some areas.
"Faith gives you resources to reach out to other people and understand what motivates them," said Bishop Jonathan speaking in the Church Times this week. You can read the report in full here.
On Feb 1 there is a workshop on religious diversity at The Blackley Centre, Elland, 9.30-3.30pm with Bishop Jonathan and the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd Toby Howarth. It is for church leaders and clergy and will give time and space to explore issues around welcoming asylum seekers and refugees, tackling hate crime and new approaches to interfaith.
