Bishop Tony leads prayers on Cathedral steps

Shoppers took time out to join the Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, on Saturday as he led prayers on the steps of Wakefield Cathedral for all victims of terrorist attacks.

Almost 100 people of all faiths and none, braved the gusts of wind to stand together and remember London,Iran, Afghanistan and Egypt.

Bishop Tony was joined by several local imams who together condemned the attacks.

Said Bishop Tony: “It was with great sadness that people from Wakefield came together again to remember the victims of another terrorist attack only two weeks after the last occasion. This time to pray for the attack in London. Christians and Muslims stood in silence to remember those who had died, the injured and bereaved. I was joined by several Imams who all condemned the attacks. We also remembered those victims of recent terrorist attacks in Iran, Afghanistan and Egypt.

"We prayed that we wouldn’t have to meet again and that everyone would stand united together against those who commit such awful acts."
