Blessings to our Jewish friends as they celebrate their New Year

At the start of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, our six bishops have sent their greetings to Jewish communities in the region.

The message reads:

On behalf of the Anglican Diocese of Leeds, we wish our Jewish friends, neighbours and colleagues Shanah Tovah, and we pray that the High Holy Days may be a period of great blessing.

At a time in which antisemitism has featured prominently in our national media, we are grateful for the strong relationships between Jews and Christians across our communities. We do not take these relationships for granted, and recommit ourselves to working with you to build a society of openness and respect.

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us in the year ahead.

Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds (Diocesan Bishop)

Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs, Bishop of Huddersfield

Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Ripon

Rt Revd Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford

Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield
