Boroughbridge celebrates the NHS at 70

A specialist nurse, a health visitor, a consultant kidney specialist, a retired NHS executive, who had worked as a psychiatric nurse, and a senior local GP, were among those who took part in a service at St James’ Church, Boroughbridge  last Friday 6 July to celebrate 70 years of the NHS.

The church is next door to the local surgery and having sung ‘happy birthday’ to the NHS there were hymns, readings and prayers. The service was led by a former full-time NHS chaplain.

“The highlights of the evening were the short talks given by five local NHS employees who gave an insight into their work” said vicar of Kirby-on-the-Moor, Cundall w Norton-le-Clay & Skelton-cum-Newby, the Revd Alison Askew.

“All five spoke of their sense of privilege and pride at working for such an amazing organisation. We all shared our gratitude for the NHS and most of us said we couldn't imagine life without it.”
