They did it! Church members from St Mary's Honley in Huddersfield braved the shave on Saturday - donating hair to the Little Princess Trust in a Macmillan community event inspired by a mother and daughter story of true grit and determination.
Jo Sellers’ world was turned upside in the summer of 2015 when in just a matter of weeks her mum Barbara went from having investigations for a suspected ulcer to a diagnosis of stage 4 bowel cancer with eleven secondary liver tumours.
The news was devastating and the 300 miles distance between Jo, a working mum with three young children, and Barbara, meant that she couldn't be at her side to support her as much as she desperately wanted to.
That's where Macmillan Cancer Support stepped in for Barbara and Jo; without them Jo admits they don't know how they would have made it through the last year as Barbara faced four major operations and is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy.
Barbara is a determined woman, determined to live to see her seven-year-old grandson grow up and get married and also determined to raise awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer and not rely on screening alone.
Jo braved the shave - and she even persuaded churchwarden Karen Atkinson to join here before and after they went under the razor.
The event raised £600 - four people including Jo shaved their heads for the Little Princess Trust, which creates wigs for children who have lost their hair - and four people braved the wax! This brings the total so far to over £1850.
The event was supported by local businesses and incuded stalls, craft activities for children, face painting, live music plus a prayer corner with 'prayer lilies'.
