Bushtucker trial for Harrogate clergy!

Bush Tucker challenge“I’m a Vicar, get me out of here!” has proved to be one of the most popular features of this week’s Holiday Club at St Mark’s, Harrogate.  Vicar, the Revd Guy Donegan-Cross, and Associate Minister, Revd Dan Watts, (pictured right) were subject to a series of increasingly difficult jungle ordeals including eating locusts and sago worms and being blindfolded while feeling for objects hidden in jelly, worms, and snakes – much to the delight of the 160 plus audience of children and leaders.

“It was absolutely revolting!", said Dan, once he had recovered from the challenge of eating the locusts and worms.

“They were crunchy and basically tasted of mud”, he added, “Truly horrible!”

More than a hundred primary aged children, plus around sixty leaders including many young helpers from the church youth groups, have been taking part in three days of music, drama, games, Bible stories, activities, prayer and worship and projects in the community.

St Mark’s Church was transformed into a jungle for “The Big Adventure”, exploring the adventure of faith with God. The whole programme was written, devised and organised by church member and children’s leader, Karen Allen, together with Dan and a team of leaders.
