Caring for Life - in Cookridge

Caring for Life, a Christian charity in Cookridge which offers support to homeless and vulnerable people, is holding a Family Open day this Saturday – with lamb racing, wood carving and much more on offer.

CFL is run from Crag House Farm, it also has two supported houses which house 16 vulnerable adults. At the farm, over 70 people are able to have a go at activities such as agriculture, catering, art, literacy and drama. Many people have come from tragic circumstances, but in this supportive and caring environment, they regain their self-esteem and many go on to secure employment.

Support co-ordinator Pam Parkinson says, “Since it began 28 years ago, CFL has sought to follow in the footsteps of Jesus by caring for those who are ‘harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.’ We provide help for as long a as person needs. Tragically, the level of need amongst the homeless and the vulnerable has increased, not diminished over those years.

“The majority of CFL’s income and volunteer support comes from individuals and churches – many from the Church of England, and currently the Trust is seeking new prayer supporters and new churches. Finding just one more person to  pray and maybe give £1 or £2 a week, is the basis on which the ministry has been built.”

TThe Family Open Day & Service takes place at Crag House Farm, Otley Old Road, Cookridge, Leeds LS16 7NH, with a Thanksgiving Service at 10.30am - open to all - followed by stalls and attractions 12.30-5pm.

Admission: £5 adult, £2.50 3-16 yrs + concessions, under 3s Free.
