A twelve hour sponsored sing has helped launch Wakefield Cathedral choir across the sea on a tour of the Netherlands to promote their latest CD recording of popular choral anthems.
The girls and men of Wakefield Cathedral Choir set off in the early hours of Sunday morning for a seven day tour of concerts and services in Amsterdam, Zoetermeer and Haarlem –and yesterday were performing in St Nicholas’ Basilica in Amsterdam (pictured here).
The sponsored sing last month raised over £1,000 for the Cathedral Choir Association which has just funded the choir’s latest CD of choral classics, called Voice and Verse.
Tom Moore, Director of Music, said the choir were in the best shape they’d ever been in when they recorded their latest CD and he hoped it would inspire new generations of voices to come forward and join the Cathedral choir.
It is the first time they have released an ensemble of popular choral anthems. Produced by Priory Records and directed by Tom Moore, it includes Parry’s “I was glad”, Howard Goodall’s The Lord is my Shepherd, as well as Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu and arrangements by John Rutter.
Priced £10 it is to raise funds for the Choir Association and is available from the online Cathedral Shop on www.wakefield-cathedral.org.uk
