The first-ever Confirmation Service for the whole diocese will be led by Bishop Nick at Ripon Cathedral this Easter.
This important inaugural event takes place on Easter Eve, March 31, at 7.30pm and will become an annual event held at each of the three cathedrals in turn.
Aimed at encouraging joint participation, all parishes are invited to bring candidates for Baptism and Confirmation following suitable preparation.
Bishop Nick says, "In the early days of the Christian Church people came for baptism on Easter Eve. From 2018 onwards I will be conducting a Baptism and Confirmation Service in one of our cathedrals, inviting people from across our diverse diocese to join with other new Christians from near and afar in making a big commitment to follow Jesus Christ. I look forward to it".
A rehearsal for the service will take place at 5.30pm in the Cathedral’s nave, followed by tea and cake in the library prior to the service.
If your parish plans to bring candidates to this service, please read and follow these instructions:
Please write to the Dean of Ripon’s PA, Judith Bustard, by email three weeks before the service, providing your parish name, the names and ages of those who are to be baptised, confirmed, or received into the Church of England (or to renew their baptismal vows) from another Church. Please send these details to JudithBustard@RiponCathedral.org.uk .
Please provide each candidate with a name card in large black type. This will enable the bishop to use the name without having to ask for it.
Please bring a completed confirmation certificate for each candidate, and your parish register to the Cathedral one hour before the service.
Bishop Nick will be available to sign all documents at that time.
