Thy Kingdom Come’ has been described as a global wave of prayer for communities, towns, cities and the nation taking place between Ascension and Pentecost, 2017.
Bradford Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral and Wakefield Cathedral will all be involved with 'Beacon' Events taking place across the period - see details below
- Events began at Bradford Cathedral at 7pm on Ascension Day, May 25th. Six Prayer Stations have been created and are open throughout the ten days until Pentecost. On Ascension evening worshippers prayed using the prayer stations, before gathering for an Ascension Day Eucharist. The period of prayer at Bradford Cathedral comes to a climax on Pentecost Eve (Saturday 3 June) at 7pm with a Praise and Thanksgiving event
At Ripon Cathedral, the wave of prayer continued with a special ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ service on Sunday May 28 . Music will be led by a combined choir from Whitkirk Deanery.
The Dean John Dobson introduced the service which combined prayers, meditations readings and hymns. The preacher was Bishop Toby Howarth, the Bishop of Bradford. .
Wakefield Cathedral will be hosting the final Pentecost Celebration on the afternoon of June 4th. Every parish has been asked to help them build a large diocesan prayer station for the event, led by Bishop Nick. The service for Pentecost will be the culmination of the Thy Kingdom Come events and it is hoped that every parish will be represented by creating a dynamic prayer station of images from across the whole diocese. Read more about the service here
The service starts at 3.30pm and it will be preceded by an hour of prayer stations around the Cathedral from 2.30pm. Bishop Nick will preach. The service will end outside on the Cathedral steps and will be followed by celebratory drinks in the nave.
The Dean of Wakefield, the Very Revd Jonathan Greener said: "Thy Kingdom Come’ is gathering momentum around the world as a focus for prayer. We are delighted that people from across the diocese will join us here in Wakefield for this great celebration, and hope that it will provide the opportunity as we pray together, to learn to love each other more, and to re-commit ourselves to serving God’s people throughout our region. "
#PledgeToPray. The website for Thy Kingdom Come now has the facility for individuals and churches to say they 'Pledge to Pray'. The pledge becomes a light on the world map to encourage others to pledge too. To #pledgetopray visit: https://www.thykingdomcome.global/

A prayer for Thy Kingdom Come
Almighty God,
your ascended Son has sent us into the world
to preach the good news of your kingdom:
inspire us with your Spirit
and fill our hearts with the fire of your love,
that all who hear your Word
may be drawn to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
