Anyone interesting in tapestry, textiles and stitching could find themselves a place in history if they are able to contribute to a major community textile project at Bradford Cathedral.
New altar frontals with vivid colours and designs have already appeared at the Cathedral but the project has yet to be completed. Four long kneelers have yet to be woven to go around the high altar and will be in the form of tapestries in wool. Each kneeler has a printed design and will be completed as part of the community project
Those who take part will be added to Bradford Cathedral’s ‘book of stitchers’. “Experienced stitchers and inexperienced alike are welcome to contribute to these historic pieces”, says project leader Gillian Davis.
The first group stitching sessions will be on Tuesday afternoons between 1.00 and 3.00 pm at the Cathedral starting on Tuesday January 26th, followed by February 16th and March 1st. “Instruction will be available, as will tea and cake” adds Gill.
Even those who don’t feel confident enough to stitch are welcome to help with making tea, or to simply sit with the stitchers and chat. Just turn up, or for further details please contact Gill Davis - 01274 777720 or gillian.davis@bradfordcathedral.org
