Cawthorne \"tea ladies\" at Yorkshire\'s own festival

A team from All Saints' Church, Cawthorne transformed themselves into tea ladies for a local music festival – and raised over £2,000 for church funds.

Pictured left to right is Avril Crossley  , Revd Jean Daykin, the Revd Jonathan MacGillivray, and Ann Eyley  who served tea and cakes throughout the three day Underneath the Stars Festival at Cannon Hall last month.

Underneath the Stars Festival is a fresh new summer festival of music, arts and food – and a collaboration between Barnsley folk singer-songwriter Kate Rusby, her family production team and one of Yorkshire's visitor attractions and quality food producer Cannon Hall Open Farm which is run by the Nicholson Family.

And the festival- goers certainly liked cake – over the weekend the tea ladies sliced and served up around 80 cakes – with carrot cake the clear favourite, followed by coffee and walnut and lemon drizzle.

Said Avril: “We sold every cake, even the crumbs.

“Many customers remembered us from last year and visited us several times over the weekend and a number even walked to Church to attend service on Sunday morning. "we had a weekend of fun interacting with all the Festival 'goers', whilst raising £2,050 for Church Funds.

"A big thank you to Kate and the Rusby family for inviting us to be part of a fantastic weekend," she added.
