At St Mary’s Church a celestial sound cloud will be installed to capture the imagination of visitors during Barnsley's first ever Christmas Bright Nights.
From Wednesday 28 November to Saturday 1 December, the first Barnsley Bright Nights festival will launch in the town centre and officially kick start Barnsley’s countdown to Christmas. Throughout the four days the event will transform the town centre into a winter wonderland with an aray of Christmas lights, fireworks, a Christmas market, a range of food and drink stalls, choir singers, a big wheel, a family fun fair and a world-class digital projection onto the town hall.
St Mary's Church will be one of the buildings taking part with a celestial sound cloud - a giant light and sound sculpture that interacts with singing, moving and dancing - installed in the grounds of the church.
The Rev Canon Stephen Race, Area Dean of Barnsley, said “This year the Council is pulling out all the stops for the Christmas Light switch on in its ongoing effort to revitalise the Town Centre and we are delighted that the Church was approached to be a partner in the event."
"Although we are only playing a small part, I hope that being given the opportunity to enter the Church building people may also take a moment to reflect on the story of Jesus that remains the heart of the season.”
