A new "Christians for Christians" holiday service has been launched to help clergy let investment properties at home and abroad.
Many clergy and other church staff living in church-based accommodation decide to enter the housing market during their ministry with a view to the future.
Retired vicar Gordon Dey, formerly of Holme Wood, Bradford, said one option is to buy holiday homes.
"Buying such a property, with mortgage implications, can be feasible by offering holiday lettings, but many prefer to limit such lettings to Christian families, often with discounts offered to clergy and church staff," Gordon said.
He and wife Lis own a flat in Pembrokeshire (pictured) and have now teamed up with Sue and Gordon Barley, a clergy couple in Ovenden, Halifax, who have place in Spain, to create "Holy Hols", following the closure of a similar scheme.
Sue, pictured with Gordon, said: 'We've been delighted to see our holiday property used by Christians, particularly clergy families, and we've regretted the loss of a previous publication that enabled it to be promoted.
"It’s been good to have got together to create something new that we hope will benefit both those with holiday properties to let, and church members who would like to use them.'"
Gordon added: 'We bought our holiday flat at St Dogmaels 27 years ago, and were able to cope with mortgage payments by offering it as a holiday let. Nearly all of our tenants have been Christians, and over the years some have become personal friends.
"We've been delighted by the way in which our flat has been treated, and remain keen to limit our letting of it largely to Christian families.
"The new service will be a ‘not for profit’ joint venture that we hope will be of great benefit both to those with properties to let and those who would like to use them.
"Thirty potential ‘clients’ have already indicated they are keen to use the new service, and others are now being invited to express an interest."
Anyone interested in using this new service can contact Sue Barley at info@holyhols.co.uk, or phone 01422 250125 and a Holy Hols website is expected to go live after Easter.
