More than sixty volunteers from across the diocese and beyond will welcome thousands of visitors to the Yorkshire Church on Show Display during the Great Yorkshire Show, which takes place at the Showground just outside Harrogate from July 14-16.
The joint church ecumenical project has been welcoming visitors to the Church on Show pavilion near the centre of the showground for many years. This year, 2015, the focus will be prayer with activities centred around a display called ‘More than Words’.
A central feature of the display this year is a water feature and 10ft tree upon which visitors will be invited to hang prayer ribbons. Observers may spot the first visitor (see photo) who plans to keep a bird’s eye view over all that takes place.
The display will be packed with thought and prayer-provoking activities using beads, mirrors, slate and fingerprints. Each visitor will have a treasure bag to fill and take away with reminders of different aspects of prayer.
Prayers will also be written and shared direct from the show via the Church on Show twitter account: @churchonshow using the hashtag: #>thanwords
Design Coordinator, Capt. Canon Nic Sheppard (pictured above left) said, “Over the past few years we have been greatly encouraged by the positive response of visitors when given the opportunity to pray. This year we look forward to creating a space within such a busy showground that helps the public engage and focus on God using a wide variety of creative prayer stations.”
