Church school in Dewsbury gets glowing OFSTED report

A church school in Dewsbury has been described as being 'harmonious' with a high standard of teaching following a visit from an education inspector.

St John's Infant School on Dewsbury Moor was visited by Ofsted in March with the outcome recently published.

And the Boothroyd Lane school is proving to be working at a consistent level after gaining another 'good' overall mark from Ofsted, matching its score from the previous inspection in 2013.

Headteacher, Lynn Hill said: "Everyone at the school and the governors are very happy, there are a lot of positive comments in the report.

"There’s been a massive amount of work from every single person and it is continuous.

"Like all schools, we were only told of the visit the day before so you don't get any time to prepare or get stressed, we just get on and do what we do day to day.

"When you do get the result. and you see what they've written, it validates everything that we do here."

The visit from the inspector involved him meeting with members of the school's Governing body, analysed pupils' work, observed teaching, listened to the children read and spoke to the children. He also spoke with parents and studied the schools development and improvement plan.

The outcome report read: 'The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

"You have created a calm. welcoming ethos where staff support you very well in securing good outcomes for pupils.

"You have created a harmonious community where children get on well together.

"The quality of teaching is generally of a high standard and early years provision is a strength of the school.

"Year on year, the proportion of children achieving a good level of development has increased."

Mrs Hill said: "There are only a couple of things we need to do to strive to become outstanding, so it is certainly within our reach."

Local vicar, the Revd Kathy Robertson in the Dewsbury Team Parish said: "This is a lovely and very apt description of the school which strives to provide a high level of education and promote solid Christian values in a very diverse community. I am very proud of them all."
