Pictured (left) handing over 60 Real Easter eggs to the Revd Amos Kasibante at St Agnes Church, Burmontofts in Leeds, is Anne Carter, a member of the Diocesan Children, Youth and Families Team.
Anne was delivering the eggs to the children of Burmontofts church and St Cyprians Harehills on behalf of St Mark’s Church, Harrogate, which for the third year running has decided to use part of its charitable giving to buy Easter eggs for children and young people in more deprived parts of the diocese.
This year St. Mark's is giving away more than 500 Easter eggs in total to churches, charities and good causes as well as Easter books and Scripture Union comics which explain the Easter message for children.
Fifty Easter Eggs together with Scripture Union Easter story books were delivered to the Revd Jude Smith at St Mary’s Hawkesworth Wood, Leeds (pictured right).
Vicar of Burmontofts, Revd Amos Kasibante said the children in his congregations would be excited to receive the Easter eggs, “I think the children and the parents and the rest of the church will be excited that they have received a gift from other Christians from somewhere else. It will be explained to them what the Easter eggs mean, their connection with Easter and I think that this will be important for them. This is symbolism and it says a lot.”
In addition to churches, 300 eggs and 300 Easter comics were sent to Wetherby Young Offenders Institution – along with 25 boxes of chocolates for the staff - and children at a local women’s refuge will also receive Real Easter eggs with Easter booklets.
