A climate pilgrimage happening this year is looking for volunteers as it crosses large parts of our diocese.
The Relay to COP26 is a relay walk from St Ives to Glasgow running from June to October this year, organised by the Young Christians Climate Network.
The relay comes through our whole diocese, from Marsden in the Huddersfield area to Bedale in the Ripon area.
The YCCN are looking for volunteers to help with the relay, including walkers, on call supporters and people to put up those taking part for the nights they are walking.
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “It’s very exciting that this initiative is coming to our diocese, and visiting so many beautiful parts of it.
“We’ve already got some volunteers and are looking forward to welcoming those who are walking, but we could use some more help too!
“If we want to help care for God’s creation here and across the world, we need to do our part to call for climate justice and put pressure on those in charge to do more to protect our planet.”
The YCCN is looking to use the walk to argue for more climate justice and creation care, while pushing for systematic change on a global and a local scale.
The relay aims to raise awareness of COP26 and a Christian imperative to engage in creation care theology, individually and corporately.
