Come and celebrate our worldwide community
There will be a chance to celebrate and reflect on all we have done together with our link dioceses across the world in a special service in Wakefield Cathedral on 2 April.
It is the first time every bishop from our seven link dioceses of Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, the USA, Sweden, Pakistan and Germany will come together in one place. The service will celebrate the relationships we have built together over the years and call us to continue to pray for each other in the future.
This service in Wakefield Cathedral marks the beginning of a nine-day visit during which the bishops will visit link parishes across the diocese and take some time for prayer and reflection together on retreat.
Bishop Nick said: “It will be a unique international conference in which we’ll be celebrating the strength of global Christianity. It's a hugely positive message that runs counter to the current narrative of global fragmentation”.
A single candle will be lit at the service and will remain lit for their time here as a sign of our praying with them. Each visiting bishop will take part in the service: leading prayers, giving testimony, lighting the candle, giving readings. Bishop Nick will preach.
The Revd Canon Leah Vasey Saunders, Canon Precentor at Wakefield Cathedral, said: “This is a unique opportunity for us to give thanks for the relationships we have built with one another, to celebrate all that we have achieved together in mission and to pray for God to continue to guide and direct us as we seek to share the good news of his love in today’s world.”
ALL WELCOME – especially the link parishes.
