West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy (WYCCP) is recruiting for volunteer family link workers for their new project: Family Support – In to Out, which supports ex-prisoners and their families in the community.
Adrienne Grant of WYCCP says, “Imprisonment causes extra strain on families which often results in family breakdown. Our project will minimise the impact of imprisonment on families and help break the cycle of re-offending.
“Based at HMP Leeds, ‘Family Support – In to Out’ is unique because we support both the ex-prisoner and the family (while their loved one is in prison and after release) and offer a seven day a week service.”
The Criminal Justice Joint Inspection 2014 noted: “Family and friends are the most important factor in enabling successful resettlement on release.”
What can volunteer family link workers do?
Family volunteer link workers support families by helping with practical and emotional issues e.g. parenting, finance, health, accommodation; liaising with statutory agencies and supporting re-integration into family life.
