Jonathan Gibbs, Bishop of Huddersfield opened a newly created garden of reflection at Flockton CE (C) First School on Monday 20 June 2016.
After a wet start, the sun came out, and the Bishop as well as friends and families of the school were treated to a service led by the children, followed by the grand opening ceremony
The idea for the garden came from a whole school RE Day, working with Hand to Mouth Ministries to find out more about the Creation Story. The day got the children thinking about the story in greater depth.
Head Teacher Neil Cappleman commented:
“We were planning to build a new garden in our school grounds and thought that the Creation Story would be an excellent place to start.
“The children used what they had learned to plan the garden. We thought about each day in the creation story and how this could be represented in the garden through planting, poetry and art work. The children then worked with a garden designer and artist to bring all their ideas together into a complete design.
“We are extremely grateful to the school community for their fund-raising as well as donations from local businesses and community that have helped the children put their ideas into reality.
“The finished garden looks superb and is already being used as an area for reflection by the children and staff.”
The day continued with a fun filled summer fayre organised by the Friends of Flockton School.
