Cumberworth First School enjoys new hall

Children enjoying birds of prey in new hall

Last Wednesday, the children, staff and local community of Cumberworth First School, joined together to celebrate the opening of the school’s fabulous new hall.

In a special assembly, the school were delighted to be joined by Bishop Jonathan, the Bishop of Huddersfield, and the Revd Gill Johnson, who has supported the school in developing its Church ethos over many years.

Cumberworth School choir performed a very moving rendition of ‘Distance’, and children read prayers and poems about their school. Children also contributed to a special ‘mosaic’ cross, and following the service, others at the assembly also added to the cross, which is now displayed in the new hall.

Earlier in the day the new hall was put to excellent use as pupils enjoyed a visit from some very special guests …….. owls and birds of prey from the ‘Wise Owl Bird of Prey Rescue Centre’, run by Wayne and Katrina Auty. Children had a wonderful opportunity to hold the birds and even watch them fly around the school hall!

Fortunately the birds were very well behaved - as were the children!

All in all it was a very special day and a great celebration of the completion of the new school hall, which is already making a tremendous difference. It is a wonderful space to learn and work.
