The Diocese of Leeds is hoping to remain one of the top dioceses in the country for green data, as this year’s use of the Energy Footprinting Tool gets underway.
The Energy Footprinting Tool, on the Parish Returns system, calculates the carbon emissions from the energy used by a church using information from the energy bills.
Participation in using the tool in our diocese last year was extremely high, with more than half of our churches submitting energy usage data.
This made our diocese the second-highest participating diocese in the country, and we hope to beat that this year!
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “The response to the EFT last year from our parishes was amazing.
“The data from this carbon emission calculator is so useful for churches looking to cut their carbon footprint.
“We have worked with the nation parish returns team so that this year the online tool now allows churches to register that they use the Diocesan Green Journey scheme and credit that electricity as 100% renewably generated (so carbon neutral), as well as logging any Green Journey supplied gas (which is carbon neutral) as a carbon offset in that section if the online return.”
