Eating chocolate for Lent!

For many, chocolate is a treat given up for Lent, but not for parishioners in the Crosland Moor area of Huddersfield.

For this year’s Lent course is all about chocolate – or more specifically the Oscar nominated film Chocolat.

Every Wednesday through Lent, parishioners from St Barnabus’, Crosland Moor Methodists and Sandy Mount Extra Care Home will be looking closely at the story and characters from the film, Chocolat, starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, to explore what it means to be truly and completely human as God intended.

And there will be chocolate treats to eat or giveaway at every session.

Ian Blakeley, licensed Reader at the Benefice of St. Barnabas Church, Crosland Moor, and Christ Church, Linthwaite will run the course in the lounge at Sandy Mount Extra Care Home. It is open to anyone to attend.

He explained: “The aims of the course is to experience the season and traditions of Lent with a new focus on the good things that a life changed for Christ brings.

“So the themes we follow will hopefully, lay foundations for truly fulfilling the life of giving generously, getting real and finally indulging ourselves almost greedily, on the goodness and life in the resurrected, ‘ he added.
