Filling wellies for farmers in need

Children at three Yorkshire Dales schools are filling wellies with coins this autumn top help local farmers in need.

The wellington boot theme begins with a Harvest Celebration at St Andrew’s Church, Aysgarth, for local schools on September 23rd.

Children at the BAWB Federation schools,  (Bainbridge, Askrigg and West Burton) have been given wellies to decorate and bring along and during the service will be asked to consider how they can help the local farmers in their work: eg, prayer, eating local produce, looking after the environment, closing gates, or keeping to footpaths.

The ideas will be placed on a small cut-out cardboard wellie and placed into the decorated boot as a sign of their commitment. The 'School Wellie' will then go back with the children, where they will be encouraged to fill it up with coins between now and our Christmas celebration. All proceeds will then be sent to the Farming Community Network to help local farmers in need.
