A new walking group will take their first steps together on Easter Monday when they set off from Wakefield Cathedral.
Everyone is welcome to join the Cathedral Walking Group which will meet at 8.30am on Easter Monday outside the Cathedral.
It is the first time the Cathedral has launched its own walking group and it is spearheaded by Cathedral curate, the Revd Tim Stevens, a keen walker himself who wanted to get to know the area better and take advantage of some of the fantastic walks locally.
No walk will be longer than 10 miles in length and the first walk together will be an opportunity for people to get to know each other better in an informal environment and explore the sort of walking everyone wants to do in the future. There will be regular monthly walks organised for the third Saturday in the month through the summer months.
All walkers should be able to walk on unsteady ground at a reasonable pace (between 2.5 and 3 mph) come prepared with enough water, a packed lunch, stout footwear, warm and waterproof clothing and any required medication. Children under 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Dogs are welcome but remain the responsibility of their owner.
The leader of the walk will have a knowledge of the walk, provide maps and directions and carry a mobile phone and first aid kit.
Said Tim: “The walking group has been set up primarily to give people an opportunity to get to know each other better – and what better place to do that, than the great outdoors.
“It’s open to anyone and everyone – they don’t have to go to church – this is about fellowship and companionship and a exploration of some of the wonderful walks around these parts,: he said.
