Flocking to Fun-Key church - new born lambs join in at Richmond

BaptismsA pair of new born lambs shared the attention at the ‘Fun-Key’ all-age church last week, as the fresh expressions venture at St Mary’s Church celebrated its third birthday.

The theme for the birthday celebration was the ‘Good Shepherd’ and the two lambs provided a visual aid. A new member was added to the flock as six year old Oliver was baptised by vicar of St Mary’s, the Revd John Chambers.

Funk-Key church combines crafts and activities, with  hymns songs and prayers and takes placed once a month and a congregation of more the  ninety flocked to church to celebrate the anniversary and welcome Oliver into the church.

Gillian LunnShe said, “We heartily sang our hymns (including Psalm 23), listened to our reading about the Good Shepherd and enjoyed a variety of activities including a quiet space spinning wool, decorating sheep biscuits and making woolly badges all to the accompaniment of the bleating of two very cute lambs.

“At the end of the service Oliver was presented with a sheep card decorated with the fingerprints of everyone who came to the service and then we all enjoyed a slice of cake to celebrate Fun-Key Church 3rd birthday.

“It really was a time of meaningful fun, faith and fellowship for all ages and we can't wait till our next service at the end of May, not to mention our annual Pet Service on Sunday 28th June."

Fun-Key Church is held on the last Sunday of the month at 4pm and is for all ages, and aims to make coming to church an easier experience, particularly for those not used to church.
