On Tuesday, many Leeds shoppers were delighted to be offered a free lunch as they walked past Holy Trinity Church at the Trinity Shopping Centre.
It was organised by Leeds Faith Forum whose chair is the Revd Charles Dobbin. He said, "During Inter Faith Week we wanted to share with passers-by some of the food that is special to the different faith communities to demonstrate the importance of inter faith dialogue and cooperation.
"And with the same aim, on Thursday in the Merrion Centre (10.30-4), there will be school choirs, displays about the different faiths, worship led by members of the different faiths in their own traditions and a visit from the Lord Mayor of Leeds (11am-12pm). See timetable below.
This week, Leeds Faiths Forum has put out a statement saying that in the wake of the attacks in Paris, dialogue and cooperation between faiths is more urgent than ever:
". . . We perceive ISIS to be seeking their ends by creating a climate of fear and fostering division in our society. They are fighting a subversive battle within our minds and in our community in an attempt to create conditions for their distorted version of Islam to flourish. We believe that the wider community must not let itself become fertile ground for seeds of division and fear to grow. This is what gives urgency to the dialogue and cooperation between faiths that so many of us are engaged in."
The choirs singing at the Merrion centre on Thursday 19 November are:
10.30am Abbey Grange High School
11am St Philips Catholic Primary and Nursery School
11.30am Meanwood CofE Primary School (Which was this week named as Sunday Times State Primary of the Year)
12.30pm St Augustine’s Primary School
1pm Corpus Christi College (High)
1.30pm Holy Rosary Primary School
