Halifax Minster yesterday hosted the funeral of former ‘Class of 92’ coach Eric Harrison.
Mourners attending the funeral included many notable names from the football world, including David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson who provided a eulogy.
Mr Harrison, born and raised in Halifax, famously coached the likes of Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers at Manchester United's youth academy, nurturing them into international footballers. Before becoming a coach Mr Harrison also played football professionally, representing his local club of Halifax Town and Barrow A. F. C.
Many other famous football names were at the service, including Ron Atkinson, Brian Kidd, Steve Bruce and current Manchester united manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Reverend Hilary Barber (pictured), Vicar of Halifax who officiated, said: “Eric led a full life on earth, and in his life he created a legacy within the football world, and of a loving family man.”
"The Funeral brought people together from across the town of Halifax, and across the the world of Football. The Minster was able to provide an act of worship in the very best tradition of the Church of England, as we commended Eric Harrison back to the God who gave him to us."
