Three generations of one family will come together for the launch of a memoir of a very special lady - their mother, grandmother, and wife.
A Beautiful Life, is the title of the memoir of his wife, Rosemary, published by retired priest and former Diocesan Missioner in the Wakefield Diocese, Canon John Holmes.
Rosemary died surrounded by her family in St Gemma’s Hospice on Maundy Thursday 2015.
Its publication is being launched at an open Mothers’ Union meeting at 7pm on Monday 12 September in Wakefield Cathedral which has been at the heart of many family visits, worship and celebrations over the years - including Rosemary’s funeral.
For Rosemary, the Mothers’ Union is also a fitting launch pad for her memoir – having been picked as a poster girl for their organisation – thanks to a rather over zealous reporter at the Yorkshire Evening Post in 1975 she was penned the “face of revolution in the Mothers’ Union”.
The same reporter did a feature piece focusing on her glamour looks as a model wife for a curate when John got his second curacy in St Paul’s, Ireland Wood, Leeds.
John’s memoir of his wife is a touching reflection of a life lived in light – a life loved and cherished. It chronicles Rosemary’s early upbringing in Sheffield, her love of dancing and walking, her and John’s life together – first meeting at Leeds University – and their subsequent family life.
John wrote the book for their eleven grandchildren and he will introduce it at the meeting and read excerpts from it alongside his youngest son, Tom - and expects a good number of his grandchildren to be there on the night too.
Copies will be on sale and canapes and wine will follow the meeting. at 7pm on Sept 12 in Wakefield Cathedral. To help with catering, please let us know if you want to come.
