Formal thanks for the remarkable service given by founding diocesan secretary

Debbie Child officially retired from her role as our Diocesan Secretary back in March, handing over to Jonathan Wood after giving 28 years of loyal service to the Church of England in our region.

Originally, a service at Ripon Cathedral, where Debbie is a lay canon, was planned to thank Debbie for her service to the diocese. Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic this was unable to happen and farewells were done over Zoom instead.

Following many months of restrictions, the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, decided that now would be a good time to let everyone know that they had formally thanked Debbie on behalf of the diocese, "for her remarkable service over so many years."

Bishop Nick, speaking with Debbie after presenting her with a painting of Fountains Abbey, went on to say, "Debbie we've presented you with a painting which we hope will bring some pleasure and be a sign not only of our gratitude but our love for you and all you've done for us over the years and we hope you enjoy a very happy retirement."

Debbie said, "Thank you very, very much. I am overwhelmed by the care and support I have seen over the years here in the Diocese of Leeds and in Bradford."

"I've been privileged to work here, privileged to serve alongside such able people, wonderful colleagues and thanks once again for the amazing support that Bishop Nick you have given me."
