Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey, will be in Harrogate this month to launch an initiative aimed at bringing all the resources of church communities within the area to work together for the good of the town.
Lord Carey will speak on Thursday 10th September at an open meeting in the Wesley Centre in Harrogate. Among the audience at the launch of the ‘Harrogate Hub’ are expected to be church leaders and local councillors.
“We are very honoured that Lord Carey is coming to give the keynote address at the launch of Harrogate Hub,” says Rev Guy Donegan-Cross, Chair of Harrogate Churches Together. “As we are seeking to step forward in helping the church to be a united movement for the good of the community, his insights and experience of community action will give us an inspiring and uniting vision.”
Lord Carey will speak on, “Mind the Gap: Reaching Out and Reaching in”, looking at how churches and community groups can most effectively face the issues facing communities across the country.
“At a time when local government is responding to austerity it’s an opportunity for us to work together more to serve those who fall through the gaps and to build community,” says Rev Donegan-Cross.
At the meeting the vision for a “Harrogate Hub” will be shared through a film created by local firm KTV Video Production. The aim of the Hub will be to bring together all the resources of churches into one town centre resource, networking the thousands of people in churches effectively, providing one face and one voice.
