Training sessions to help clergy and parish officers prepare for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into effect next month are now taking place.
To help parishes understand what they need to do to ensure that they are collecting and using any data within the requirement of the law a number of sessions led by the Diocesan Registrar Peter Foskett are being offered, starting last Monday.
There are still two opportunities to take part. At Church House, 17-19 York Place, Leeds :
May 14, 2pm to 4pm and 5pm to 7pm, May 15, 7pm to 9pm.
These sessions are being offered in addition to the information available on the Diocesan website: http://www.leeds.anglican.org/GDPR
"We have spread the trainings across the time leading up to the 25th May and hope that you will be able to attend one of the sessions," said Peter.
"We anticipate that demand for places will be high and would therefore ask that you book just one place per parish.
"It is essential that you book to attend so that we can ensure we do not exceed capacity at the venues."
To book a place contact Cath Fox, team administrator in the Resourcing Parishes Team, as soon as possible preferably by email or you can ring on 0113 3530 221.
Clergy and PCCs need to make preparations for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on May 25th 2018. And the best way to start is to follow our simple steps.
The General Data Protection Regulation is a stronger version of the Data Protection Act which we are already legally obliged to comply with. It takes into account the massive changes in technology since the Data Protection Act was introduced in 1984. The GDPR enhances and strengthens an individual’s rights.
The guide on our website is intended to give the Clergy as the Data Controller, PCCs and Data Compliance Officers information on the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25 May 2018.
This is not a definitive guide. There is a wealth of information on external websites such as the ICO. This document is designed to get PCCs thinking about the data they hold and what plans and actions they need to take to get compliant by the time the new regulation comes into being.
