Poppy the Dog listens attentlvely to the band of the Salvation Army at St Hilda's Church Cross Green last Sunday (October 21).
Creatures from dogs to terrapins took part in a service for pets at St. Hilda’s to mark the bond between people and animals and give thanks for their lives.
The service was the idea of Parish Priest of St Hilda’s, Revd Darren Percival, as one of the latest in a series of community focussed events for the area.
During the service, which included music from the Hunslet Corps of the Salvation Army, Fr Darren, blessed a number of dogs, goldfish, and the terrapins.
“If you were to turn the nave of the church upside down then it would like a boat so it was nice to have an ark of creatures great and small present for the service,” he said.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for the joy that these creatures bring into our lives in all sorts of ways,” said Fr Darren, who is also parish priest of St. Saviour’s, Richmond Hill.
