Going, going, gone at Dewsbury Minster
Going, going, gone will be ringing out from Dewsbury Minster next Friday (May 1) when the ancient building will be transformed into an auction house.
It is the second year that the Dewsbury Team Parish has organised a Grand Auction to raise much needed funds and doors open at 5.30pm for viewing.
Richard Middleton, churchwarden and auctioneer for the evening, explained: “We held our first auction last year and it raised over £1,000, which went into our general funds and helped us with our Parish Share.
“Like many churches, dwindling congregations and increasing running costs is having its toll and we find paying our way is becoming more and more difficult.”
Those looking for a bargain can expect over 100 lots –including 15 black leather seated chairs suitable for a church meeting room, a wide variety of bric-a-brac, crockery and pictures.
Viewing open from 5.30pm for an hour and the auction starts at 6.30pm. Refreshments are available and all proceeds to Team Parish funds.
