Guided tours launched at Haworth\'s famous church

Haworth Parish Church has launched a new Guided Tours of Church scheme by staging three tours for the general public.

The Church, with its well-known historic  links to the famous Brontë family as well as William Grimshaw, recently received substantial Heritage Lottery Fund grant towards the repair of its north-facing roofs.

One condition of the grant is that the church organised a community activity - and as a result it has put together its Guided Tours scheme.

Nine volunteers have now successfully taken part in a five-week tour guide training scheme organised by Oakworth-based Yorkshire Blue Badge Tourist guide Johnnie Briggs.

Pictured are Haworth Church’s historic first guided tour party. Tour Guides, Sue Burnett and Andrea Hislop (badged) are pictured to the right next to course tutor Johnnie Briggs (far right).

The tour programme was officially launched when Sue Burnett and Andrea Hislop successfully showed the first party round Tours of St Michaels and All Angels’ (Haworth Parish Church).

Further tours  are planned at regular intervals each month and details can be found at  www.haworthchurch.co.uk.

Private tours of Haworth Church away from the planned programme can be arranged by appointment and details of availability can be obtained by contacting: John Huxley Tel: 01535 642264 or e-mail: johnthehux@gmail.com
