Halifax Comedy Festival posterOn the 28th October, all eyes will be on the Minster which promises to be bursting with laughter at the incredible display of clean 'In-spiring Comedy'.

Opening the evening with Wes Zaharuk’s physical comedy and following up with vocal comedy from the Harper Brothers (sons of Bobby Ball from the famous Canon and Ball), the night is set to be a comedy corker!

Headlining the evening is Jo Enright, stand-up comedian and actress who has made appearances on Phoenix Nights, I’m Alan Partridge and The Job Lot.

This event is just one of 50 being hosted at the ten day long and 14 venue strong Comedy Festival which will be running from the 23rd to the 31st October, with the main events happening over October half-term (23rd to 31st October).

The festival is the first of its kind in the local region and will be hosting talent from all areas of comedy.

From Andy Hamilton, Alistair McGowen, Jasper Carrott and endless stand-up comedy performances, to shows coming directly from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, there will be something to make all the family chuckle.

The event will have its own Comedy Café and Hidden Theatre, will host countless stage and performance workshops, will see Marty MacDonald’s Farm, Bookstart Busy Babies, and the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppets entertaining the children, will hold various film screenings and will even have some special Halloween treats!

And don’t forget the County Alpacas from Sowerby Bridge who are supporting the festival - you may see them dotted around Halifax throughout October!

Officially launched on Wednesday 15th July, the event was the creation of the Victoria Theatre who, along with friends and partners, have spent the past 12 months producing one of the largest comedy festivals in the region.

Cllr Steve Sweeney, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said, “It’s really exciting news that Halifax will soon have its own Comedy Festival.

“The Victoria Theatre already has a reputation for bringing world class comedy to Halifax, and the Comedy Festival will build on this, showcasing other fantastic Halifax venues and great comedy from both established and up and coming performers.”

He mentions, “The festival is a great way to not only discover your new favourite comedian, but perhaps also your new favourite comedy venue.

“Halifax has an incredible selection of wonderful venues, both large and small. Each space is unique and will be perfectly placed for the type of comedy they’ll be hosting.

“So whether you’re into stand up, alternative fringe events or family-friendly workshops, you’ll find it all at the Halifax Comedy Festival, with a few surprises thrown in along the way of course!”
