Happy First Birthday All Saints Community

More than 100 people from the Wakefield Episcopal Area gathered in Wakefield Cathedral last week to celebrate the first anniversary of the All Saints Community.

Members of the community stood up and affirmed their commitment to Pray, Grow, Act – the three principles of the All Saints Community launched by the Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, last All Saints Day.

Growing our churches and deepening our faith – was the vision behind the initiative – and builds on Bishop Tony’s Follow Me teaching series which is now in its fourth year.

Said Bishop Tony: “There is an appetite for growth here, I know it.

“I want us to become a Community of All Saints; to more closely follow the teachings of Jesus by making a simple rule of life centred on the three core principles of Pray; Grow and Act.

“Resources will be made available to help us in this new community to grow in our faith and commitment. It will only grow if we all continue to encourage and support each other. We are in this together,’ he said.

The service of affirmation looked at how by adopting the rule of life, change happens. The service celebrated the year which saw a day pilgrimage to the Holy Island and a Quiet Day at Mirfield.

Music was provided by the South Ossett music group led by Gill Robertson.

Bishop Tony announced that next year’s pilgrimage will take the All Saints to Durham to go deeper into the witness of people like St Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede. There will also be the opportunity to visit the Meissen Library - the largest collection of German language theological books – and an increasingly important resource for scholars not only in in the Church of England but throughout the UK.
