Help celebrate the NHS

A diocesan service will be held on July 29 to celebrate 70 years since the founding of the National Health Service.

Taking place at Ripon Cathedral at 3.30pm, organisers are inviting anyone with a ‘good news’ story about the NHS which they are willing to share to get in touch.

Canon Barry Pyke from Ripon Cathedral, says, “Often we hear negative stories about the NHS which often overshadow the great work done daily in transforming people’s lives.

“As part of the service we would really like to include ‘good news’ stories about the NHS. If you know anyone in your congregations whose lives have been changed by the NHS for the good and would be willing to tell their story then please contact me.

“It would be great to include as many as we can across our large and diverse Diocese to participate in this celebration.”

National services to mark the NHS anniversary are also being held at Westminster Abbey and York Minster by the Archbishops to mark this milestone.

Canon Pyke adds, “There is much to celebrate since the NHS came into being transforming the health and wellbeing of our nation and of Yorkshire. You and your congregations are warmly invited to this diocesan service.

“If you have health care professionals in your congregations please make them aware of this service.”
